Where could we even start? With picturesque lakes, grandiose mountain tops, or idyllic forests? No matter which part of Slovenia you choose to call home during your glamping trip, you’ll get to enjoy untouched, vibrant nature.
Triglav National Park, Slovenia
Visiting the fairy-tale like Bohinj Lake, the largest lake in Slovenia in Triglav, the only national park in Slovenia, is a great way to start your glamping trip.
Equally ethereal is the alpine beauty – Lake Krn (Krnsko jezero). You follow an easy trail for about 2 hours to get to this lake.
Alplinists are in for a treat in this national park, too.
Climbing Mount Triglav is definitely something to brag to your friends about. This 2864m high mountain peak is a challenge even for experienced climbers. Here’s an overview of the hiking trails on Triglav most of them marked ’very difficult’.
Lake Bled
The bewitching beauty of Lake Bled really goes to show just how beautiful Slovenia is. About 50 minutes away from Ljubljana you can enter a fantasy land of a peculiar island lying in the middle of a magnificent lake, surrounded by mountains.
Kranjska Gora
Have you ever been in three places at the same time? No? Well, on Kranjka Gora you can get to the triple border between Slovenia, Austria, and Italy after a beautiful 7 km long hike.
Another of many unique experiences that you can expect on Kranjska Gora is walking on a hanging bridge above a waterfall.
Ljubno ob Savinji
Ljubno is a popular glamping spot. This lovely small town is a great starting spot for many interesting activities, such as
- Rafting and fishing on the Savinja River
- Trying homemade food at tourist farms
- Learning more about log divers at the Log Diver’s Collection
Hiking on an extinct volcano called Smrekovec.
Bovec
Bovec is a town near the Triglav National Park. Lake Krn is only 40 minutes away. It’s a popular glamping spot, famous for the Soča River.
Bovec is beloved by fans of outdoor activities. Here, you can go hiking, cycling or SUP-ing, rafting, and kayaking. Honestly, enjoying the emerald-green Soca River in any capacity will be a feast for your eyes.
Let’s cover all four to prove we’re right.
Spring
We’ve already mentioned the mesmerizing Soca Valley, but what we’ve kept secret is the adrenaline-rush glamping activity of canyoning on the Soca River.
The canyoning tours range from easy to advanced, and the starting points are near Bovec. These day trips start in the middle of March and end in October.
In springtime, nature starts to bloom, which would make your canyoning trip even more worth your time. During the hike into the canyon, you’ll enjoy the picturesque landscape, which is the most beautiful in spring.
Other than that, in spring you can enjoy cycling around Lake Bled and hiking all over Slovenia. (Wait for summer for alpine hiking!)
Probably the most enjoyable in the spring is visiting the Slovenian Tuscany – Goriška Brda. Goriška Brda got this flattering nickname for picturesque nature: all around are vineyards, hills, and valleys.
In Goriska Brda you can indulge yourself with a wine tour and try out Slovenian world-famous wines.
Summer
As mentioned, the summer is the perfect time for hiking on the Julian Alps. That’s because in summer you can enrich your already perfect hike with a dip in a mountain lake.
Remember the beautiful Lake Bohinj? In the summertime, you can go canoeing or kayaking on Lake Bohinj. If this would be your first time doing either, you’ll be happy to know there are organized tours on the lake, so you’ll feel completely safe while having a wonderful time.
The same goes for the mesmerizing Soca River. Many locals and tourists head over to enjoy kayaking and rafting on the Soca in summertime. Both activities are perfect if you’re seeking an adrenaline rush.
Speaking of fun water activities, have you ever tried SUP-ing? And have you ever paddleboarded across a capital city in a European country?
You can only do this in Slovenia, so don’t miss out on the chance to enjoy a unique SUP tour of Ljubljana.
While hiking around rivers and lakes, cute colorful flowers will surely grab your attention. That’s why visiting the International Wild Flower Festival will be an amazing experience if you’re around Bohinj in May and June.
You can try floral menus in many restaurants (this festival takes place in 24 villages!) or go on a botanical tour and be amazed by interesting facts.
Autumn
Nature may bloom in spring, but it shows all its vibrant colors in autumn. Any hike, whether on the Slovenian Alps or a subalpine one, will award you with a colorful scenic view.
Wine tours are perfect in the autumn time. Grape harvest happens in September and October, so many festivals celebrating wine take place all around Slovenia.
You can also be a part of the festivities and book a harvest tour in the Malek vineyard. During the tour, you’ll be treated to a delicious wine tasting, accompanied by bread and cheese.
If you find yourself in Slovenia on November 11th (and in the following week), you’ll get to visit the St Martin’s Day Celebration. Since St Martin is the patron of vineyards, this celebration serves as a wine festival: locals dress in folk costumes, and there’s music on town squares.
Winter
We’ll leave the alpine hiking to the experts and tell you about a fun, beginner-friendly activity – snowshoeing in Bohinj.
You can book a guided tour or simply rent the snowshoeing equipment. You put on your snowshoes and you’re good to go! Anyone can go snowshoeing, so breathtaking views of Slovenia in the wintertime aren’t reserved exclusively for experienced hikers.
In other news on winter activities, Slovenia is a beloved cross-country skiing destination, both for beginners and experienced skiers. You can choose between multiple spots: Pohorje, Bohinj, Pokljuka, Upper Sava Valley…
That’s not all! In winter, you can go snow tubing in Visnja Gora, Krvavec, or Vogel and sledding in… well, anywhere where’s snowing.
This may come as a surprise, but a great winter activity for your upcoming glamping trip is horseback riding on Lake Bled. Prices go up from 51 euros, and the horseback riding tour around Lake Bled is a great way to explore this gorgeous landscape in the peak of winter.
Now that you have a better overview of the best time to visit Slovenia based on your preferences, let’s check out the best glamping accommodations in the country.
There’s no reason to sacrifice the cozy feeling of having everything at hand while reconnecting with untouched nature. In Slovenia, the glamping spots lie in the very heart of forests, lakes, and mountains.
Chocolate Village, by the Drava River
The luxury glamping spot called Chocolate Village has the perfect location, right at the riverside.
There are three types of houses in the Chocolate Village:
- Forastero – a two-story house, and a terrace overlooking the river
- Criollo – a tree house set among tree canopies
- Trinitario – a house next to the pool, with a private jacuzzi and a fireplace
Like in many other resorts, you can relax in a swimming pool or in the sauna.
However, what makes the Chocolate Village unique is their love for this tasty sweet.
If you’re a chocoholic, you’re going to enjoy their chocolate-themed activities: trying new kinds of chocolate, sipping on coffee in the Chocolate Cafe, and learning how to make chocolate yourself!
Ending your trip with a chocolate massage doesn’t sound too bad, does it?
Forest Glamping Resort Blaguš, by the Blagus Lake
Who said you can’t have it all? Deep in the forest, right by the Blagus Lake lies the dreamy Forest Glamping Resort Blagus .
They offer two interesting types of glamping accommodation: a house by the lake, made of wood and glass, and a simple wooden hut with a gable roof.
In this resort, you can rent a boat or a paddleboard and relax with the view of the lake.
Ribno Luxury Glamping, Ribno
Imagine coming back from your hike and then heading straight to your own private sauna. Dipping in the hot tub on the terrace surely wouldn’t hurt, right?
Ribno Luxury Glamping is 10 minutes away by car from the beautiful Lake Bled. We’d recommend renting a bike and cycling to the lake.
Their adorable wooden huts next to a swimming pool can be your home during your stay in Slovenia.
Pikol Glamping, Vipava Valley
Pikol Glamping offers two types of accommodation. One is a villa in the forest, which has a massage pool and private balcony.
We’re more intrigued by the other type of accommodation they’ve come up with – water villas. These houses sit on the lake, right above the water level. They remind us of the famous villas in the Maldives, just with a tropical, lake vibe.
Thei seafood is amazing. The same goes for the wine –
the current owners are the fourth generation of winemakers.
Glamping Gozdna jasa, near Soca River
Who said you couldn’t have electricity, a modern bathroom, and a hot tub on your outdoor vacation? The reason we love glamping is simple: you can have it all!
We’re sure Glamping Gozdna jasa would agree with us, since they’ve put in thought to make sure all your needs are met, starting from hotel cosmetics, all the way to high UV protection tents and self-service breakfast.
Speaking of, if you’re anything like us, you’re going to love their Lotus Belle tents. Comfy beds, a jacuzzi, and a relaxing atmosphere – all in the heart of nature.
Those who aren’t really into tents can opt for the Forest Room with great mountain views.
Another important reason to visit Slovenia is their food, especially the organic, local produce. There are many organic shops all over Ljubljana, but if you explore deeper into the countryside, head over to farmers’ markets for high-quality organic produce.
For a treat for your tastebuds, visit one of the many wine regions in Slovenia. We’d recommend Goriska Brda, Vipavska Dolina, and Posavje.
Just in Goriska Brda, the vineyards take up more than 1800 hectares of land! Some of the most wineries in Goriska Brda are: Klet Brda, Benedetič Winery, and Edi Simčič Wine Estate.
Book a wine tour all year round or a harvest tour in September and October and try out first-rate wines.
Bonus tip:
Orange wine should not be missed!
You are mistaken if you assumed it was made of orange. To make orange wine, whole white grapes are crushed and macerated, along with their skims and stems.
The Orange Wine Festival in Izola is an ideal choice if you’re planning a trip to Slovenia at the end of April.
Breathing in the fresh air of the Slovenian countryside will be beneficial for both your body and soul.
There’s nothing better than a good night’s sleep amid unspoiled nature. Hide deep in the forest and get the much-needed rest.
Challenge yourself to a digital detox while you’re there, and you’ll get the winning combination.
If you get a chance to eat breakfast in your forest glamping resort while feasting your eyes with views of the lake, why not take it?
On one hand, you can enjoy saunas, hot tubs, and pools in the glamping resort; on the other, hiking, kayaking, and canyoning await you! The much-needed physical activities will make you fall in love with active vacations.
